How to Use Edit by Chat in PhotoDirector

Edit a photo by picking a suggested fix or typing what you want, and keep every version side by side.

Updated Sep. 13, 2026 · 4 min read

PhotoDirector's Edit by Chat edits a photo from a conversation. Open a picture and it suggests fixes of its own, such as Background Blur or Remove Wire, or you type the change you want in plain words. We tried both on one street portrait: a tap blurred the background, then a sentence moved our subject to the front of a high school.

BEFORE
A girl in a school uniform on a residential street under a blue sky with power lines
The photo we opened.
AFTER
The same girl, same pose and uniform, now standing in front of a high school building with trees
After typing: change the background to senior high school.
⚡ Quick Answer: How to Use Edit by Chat in 5 Steps
  1. On the PhotoDirector launcher, click Edit by Chat.
  2. Drag in a photo or click Import Photo.
  3. Wait for the suggestions, then click one, such as Background Blur.
  4. Adjust its slider under the canvas if it has one.
  5. Or type a change in the box at the bottom left and click Generate.

Steps to Use Edit by Chat

Step 1: Open Edit by Chat

On the PhotoDirector launcher, Edit by Chat is the last of the five ways to create, at the right end of the row. Click it and it opens in a window of its own.

Step 2: Import a Photo

The window opens empty, with a note on the left: start by importing a photo, and it will offer suggestions or you can describe the edit yourself. Drag your photo onto the canvas, or click Import Photo.

Select Model at the top left shows which model will run your typed edits. We left it as it was.

Step 3: Pick a Suggestion

It analyzes the photo first, then lists fixes that suit it under Apply suggestions for this image. Ours offered Emphasize Person, Remove Wire, Balance Light, Enhance Image and Background Blur, with Show more suggestions for the rest. The list is built from the photo, so a street shot with power lines gets Remove Wire.

We clicked Background Blur. One thing to know first: the list is rebuilt after every edit. Once our background was blurred, Remove Wire was gone from it, replaced by Face Retouch and Enhance Sky. If you want a particular suggestion, use it before you make other changes.

Step 4: Adjust the Result

The chat records what you asked for and shows a Result, and the canvas updates. A suggestion that has a strength comes with a slider under the canvas: Background Blur opened at 65, and we took it up to 76 for a softer street.

Each version joins the strip along the bottom, next to Original, so you can click back to any earlier one.

Step 5: Describe Your Own Edit

For anything the suggestions do not cover, type it in Or describe what you want to edit on the image. We wrote change the background to senior high school. The badge on Generate shows the credits the request will use; click it to send.

The Result

The street became a school: a white building with a clock, trees and a stone nameplate, in the same morning light. Our subject kept the pose, the face, the uniform and even the strap of the bag. The new version went to the end of the strip, beside the blurred ones, so nothing earlier was lost.

The wand button beside Apply takes a finished version further, with Upscale and Turn Into Video, and the orange download button sits beside them.
