How to Use AI Try-On in PhotoDirector
See how an outfit looks before you buy it.

PhotoDirector's AI Try-On is a fitting room with no appointment needed: it shows how an outfit would look on a model before anyone gets changed. You can dress the model four ways: pick a ready-made template, upload your own outfit photos, mix individual pieces, or describe a look in words.
- In PhotoDirector, go to Guided & GenAI > Portrait > GenAI on Style and select AI Try-On.
- Import a full-body photo of your model, or pick a ready-made one.
- Choose a method: a Template outfit, or under Custom, import a full outfit, import individual items, or describe the outfit in words, then click Generate.
- Review the result in the preview, and click Re-generate if you want another take.
Steps to Use AI Try-On
Step 1: Open AI Try-On
Open PhotoDirector and click Guided & GenAI from the home screen. In the rail on the left click Portrait, then scroll down to GenAI on Style and select AI Try-On. Feeling impatient? Just click the AI Try-On tile under What's New instead, same destination. First time here? You'll see a quick 3-step overview. Click Start Now and you're in.
Step 2: Pick Your Model
First things first: give the AI someone to dress. Click Import Photo to upload your own full-body photo, or grab one of the ready-made images below if you just want to jump in. We went with our own photo. For the best results, use a full-body shot of one person facing the camera, and skip face coverings, tiny faces, and bulky jackets that hide your shape.
⚠️ Quick Note:
Stick to photos of yourself or people who've said it's okay to use their photo. Good news: whatever you create with AI Try-On, including for commercial use, is yours to keep and share.
Step 3: Choose How to Dress Your Model (Four Options)
This is where the fun lives. At the top of the panel you’ll see two tabs, Template and Custom. Between them they give you four ways to build a look. We tried all four on the same model so you can see exactly what each one does. Pick an option and click Generate (it uses a few credits) to see the result.
Template
Pick a ready-made outfit and click Generate. No uploads, no typing.
Custom
Upload your own outfit, import individual pieces, or describe a look in words.
Option A: Template
Under the Template tab, browse a gallery of ready-made designer outfits sorted into Female, Male, and Pet. Just click the one that catches your eye. We fell for Ivory Lacework, an intricate lace gown, and hit Generate. It's the fastest way to a polished, styled look.
Option B: Import a Full Outfit
Under Custom, choose Import Full Outfit and upload a photo of a complete look, a full-length shot or a product image works great, and the AI recreates it on your model. We handed it a long-sleeve mauve dress.
Option C: Import Individual Items
Choose Import Individual Items and add a Top, Bottom, and Shoes separately. The AI mixes them into one cohesive outfit, so go ahead and combine pieces from wherever you like. We paired a red top, olive shorts, and tan boots.
Option D: Describe the Outfit
No photo? No problem. Choose Describe the Outfit and just type what you're picturing, in up to 800 characters. We wrote “elegant and sophisticated evening gown,” and the AI turned that single sentence into a navy velvet gown with a thigh-high slit and silver heels.
Which of the four should you use? Start with Template if you just want to see the feature work. Use Import Full Outfit when you have the exact garment in a photo, Import Individual Items when you are putting a look together from separate pieces, and Describe the Outfit when the thing you want does not exist as a photo yet.
Step 4: Review It, or Run It Again
Your finished look appears in the preview window. Not quite right? Click Re-generate at the bottom left and PhotoDirector runs the same settings again. Every attempt comes out a little different, so a second or third go is usually worth it, and the number beside the button tells you what each one costs before you commit.
That's the whole feature. Your fitting room never closes, so run through any of the four methods again anytime you want a new look.

Nope, you can just pick one of the ready-made models instead. Using your own photo? A clear, full-body shot facing the camera gives the most realistic result.
Template is a gallery of ready-made outfits, sorted into Female, Male, and Pet. Custom lets you supply your own outfit, either as a photo of a full look, separate clothing items, or a written description.
- Use a full-body shot of a single person facing the camera for the model photo.
- Avoid face coverings, faces that are too small in the frame, and heavy clothing or jackets that hide your shape.
- For Import Full Outfit, a clear product shot or full-length photo works better than a cropped or busy background image.
- Not happy with a result? Use Re-Generate instead of starting over. Each attempt varies even with the same inputs.
