In a hurry? Follow the quick guide.
A tidy media library makes editing faster. Once your clips are in PowerDirector you can change how they are displayed, group them into folders, and tag them, so the right footage is a click away instead of a scroll. Tags are the part worth setting up early: they cut across folders, so one clip can sit in a shoot folder and still be found by what is in it.
- In PowerDirector's My Media, set the view and sort order from the top-right menu.
- Right-click and choose Create Folder, then drag clips in to group them.
- Add tags like Opening or Topic A, and drag clips onto each tag to sort them by section.
Ways to Organize Your Media
There are four ways to keep your media tidy: change the view and sort, filter and search, group clips into folders, and add tags.

Switch Views and Sort
Open the menu at the top right of the media panel to change the preview size or switch to Details View. You can also set the sort order here, so your newest or oldest clips come first.

Filter and Search
Click the funnel icon to filter by media type, so you only see video, photos, or audio. To jump straight to one file, type its name into the search bar. Both are handy once a project has a lot of assets.

Group Media into Folders
To keep related clips together, right-click in the panel and choose Create Folder. Then drag and drop your media into the folder. It's a simple way to separate, say, your interview clips from your B-roll.

Organize with Tags
Tags are a more flexible option. Create tags for the parts of your video, like Opening, Topic A, Topic B, and Conclusion, then drag clips onto each tag. When you start editing, you can filter to just the clips you need for that section.

Unlike folders, a single clip can carry multiple tags. If a shot works for both your Opening and Topic B, add both tags and it shows up under each. That flexibility is what makes tags so useful for planning a video.

Haven't got PowerDirector yet? Views, folders and tags are worth setting up before your library gets big, which makes this a good thing to try early.

Folders put a clip in one place, like files on your computer. Tags are more flexible: a single clip can have several tags at once, so it can belong to more than one section of your video.
Yes. Add as many tags as you like to a clip, and it will appear under each of them. This is handy when a shot fits more than one part of your video.
Use the funnel icon to filter by media type, type a name into the search bar, or filter by a tag to narrow down to just the clips you need.
